We will identify new types of documents companies are creating as a result of the pandemic, and their retention, storage, and confidentiality requirements under the law. We will discuss the laws and regulations covering retention periods for any other relevant documents, and how those laws/regulations may have been changed as a result of the pandemic. These include the following areas: Safety (OSHA), Human Resources (DOL/EEOC), Public Filings (SEC), and Tax Documents (IRS).

About Karen and J Alex:  

Karen A. Monsen has practiced law for more than 20 years of legal experience in employment law and commercial litigation and arbitration in state, national, and international forums. She also drafts technology and international contracts, and advises on intellectual property issues. In addition to these general practices, she focuses on electronic discovery, forensic investigations, cybersecurity, and document retention and destruction implementation. She has been hired as an expert in all of these areas by clients in widely diverse industries and in family-law to nationwide litigation. She has handled numerous appellate matters in the state of Texas and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is licensed to practice in the State of Texas, the United States Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Western, Northern, and Southern Districts of Texas.


J. Alex Garcia III is partner at the firm of Caldwell East & Finlayson, PLLC (“CEF”) in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Garcia joined CEF in 2015 after over thirteen years in private practice in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Garcia received his Juris Doctorate in 1999 and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Houston Law Center in 2000. Mr. Garcia focuses his practice on oil and gas, business transactions, real estate transactions, estate planning and probate, trust and estate administration, trust and estate litigation, and tax representation (business and personal, domestic and international, federal and state).
